Knights of Freedom Summit 2008

The Knights of Freedom Summit 2008 was held at the Canyon Rim Park in Salt Lake. I had the pleasure this year of being Sir Glais, the Royal Knight. Which effectively meant I had a nice trusted job in the kingdom. Sir Richard found favor with the Queen was promoted to King Richard.

Sir Palinor our villain, the Queen’s evil step brother had repented and has become the Master at Arms. The Kingdom has had a good year of peace and prosperity. This is where our story took up. A sinister new foe has emerged and started to threaten the kingdom. The food for the poor has been stolen, the Royal treasury has been robbed, and the Royal Shield stolen, the Knights Camps robbed, the Royal Court trashed and finally the Queen was kidnapped. In essence a lot happened over two days! In the stead of each of these crimes a green hand print was always left.

As Sir Glais the Royal Knight I was charged with finding those responsible.  However as the alter ego of the Royal Knight I was the Green Knight, villain. Yes I looked very hard for the villain, amazingly enough in the absence of  full length mirror I never saw him!

The two days were great! The last day I got to change to my green costume and don my mask and assemble my army of villains. There must have been about 40+ this year. It was super. Two guys who are very into the whole re-enactment field were there in costume. They looked awesome! We lined up in front of the army of goodness. I attempted to assault the King and the  Royal Squire saved him, so I ripped off my mask and charged back to my army to have them charge the field!

My brave army held for 3 waves, then we retreated in fine Italian style into the gully behind us. The goody army followed us and rescued the Queen and killed mu Wizard! The cheek!! I rallied my men and we charged out of the gully! We charged onto the field and drove the goody army back. Then my men started to die, leaving me surrounded by 104 kids with swords and a desire for blood.

The good King Richard needed to come and save me! How sad the villain needs to be saved by the good king! The goody army then formed circle around me and they sent in their champion. They cheered him on, ‘Max, Max’ so I helped in my evil taunting voice, “Max, Max, Max’!. An epic battle then took place and I was beaten and surrendered!

What a great 2 days! I am sun burnt, and bruised. Took pain killers yesterday to sleep. Feel better today and want more fun!!
